Welcome to Low Poly Mess
What is this website? Who am I? Why does it look so basic?
This is Low Poly Mess, a brand new video games site/newsletter by Tom Orry (that's me). I've been working in games media for over 20 years. I created VideoGamer.com (which has since gone bad - sad times), and have held leadership positions on USGamer.net, VG247.com, and Eurogamer.net. That's a pretty good history, even a chronic under-seller like myself has to admit. I like to think I'm pretty good at this stuff.
What is LowPolyMess.com? Well, for a long time it's been incredibly difficult to create the kind of video games coverage I love in a way that works on traditional websites. The finances just don't add up. The discoverability on Google isn't there. The audience in many ways doesn't expect it and therefore doesn't know what to do with it.
This is my way to continue putting my thoughts out there, in a way that doesn't need millions of page views. Most of what I will offer will be a weekly newsletter, which you can pigeonhole as a kind of random set of thoughts about my life, video games, and anything else that fits.
What the newsletter and site content will look like each week will depend on my mood and what's happening in the video game and real world. It's also highly likely to be what a cultured person would describe as Avant-garde - everyone else will think it's self-indulgent bollocks.
You'll be able to read the website and the T.O.M. newsletter (The Tom Orry Minute) completely free of charge, although what I am able to do with this project will ultimately be determined by your support.
If you've enjoyed anything I've been involved in over the last 20 years or read the first T.O.M. and enjoyed it, please become a paying supporter.
This is very much the start of Low Poly Mess. I wanted to start writing again so this is what tech bros call the Minimum Viable Product - what I call getting off my arse and actually doing something. I'll be updating the site in the coming days/weeks with an actual logo. I tried making one... it did not go well.
